My breathing came in ragged gasps now. Through the pain, my muscles tensed.
He crouched beside me; my senses shot into a frenzy. I heard his rushing blood and the racing heart that pushed it. His fear, so reserved and so enticing, smelled like salt and copper--sweat and blood. I tasted his fear.
