Six Sentence Sunday 3/6

It's that time again! Sunday Six! Remember to visit all the participants here!

This Sunday's six comes from Duality, since y'all seem to be enjoying it so well. Hopefully you read the tab to get a sense of what's going on overall. In this snippet, our fearless (ok, scared to death) MC is about to undergo her first combat exam, the Endurance Chamber, in which she'll have to fight four different opponents in four simulated environments. She's not ready, but James wants her in it anyway. The test uses virtual reality to simulate the opponent's natural habitat. It is do or die.

All I could see was swirling sand that invaded my nose and stung my face. I opened my mouth and tasted its grittiness. Blinded and already battered, I was helpless.

Finally, the sands died down enough for me to open my eyes. On a small mound of sand only a few yards away stood a tiny fox-like creature.

A fennec? I asked myself. A fennec is going to kill me?
