If it were not for this wall....

Since it's Mr. E.A. Poe's 202nd birthday, I wanted to share a funny story. I know, it seems odd to the words "funny" and "Poe" in the same sentence, but he was quite the satirist. Anyway...

My sophomore yr of college, I had a literature class, and one of the stories we read was Poe's "The Black Cat." My roommate and I had the class together, so we decided to work together on the accompanying project: draw the last scene from "The Black Cat."

For those who don't know the story--SHAME on you--basically, a guy is tormented by his wife's cat and ends up killing the wife and holing up the evil cat in the wall (incidentally where he also placed his wife's body). But he hears scratching behind the wall, and the cat is still alive!!!!!!!!!

I have no artistic ability. My roomie, however, had been in art class when we were in high school and done pretty impressive work. So what happens?

I drew a stick cat with one eye. And it's quoting something Ryan Stiles said on Whose Line is it Anyway, tailored to suit our wall-cat needs:

"If it were not for this wall, I would be freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!"

Also, we named the cat Fluffy.

And I kept Fluffy for a long time after that. I miss that cat.

I think I'd be more likely to wall up a cat than miss one. :)

Haha! Only one of my greatest college memories EVER! Oh, how I miss Fluffy...

Also, don't forget our powerpoint presentation with Moses as clip art :)

LOL!!!!!!!!!!! AND NOW, you shall henceforth be known as...

TIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best. Thing. Ever. MAN! I wish I still had those. So disappointed that the two best things I ever participated in for college are no longer available for my amusement :(

But the memories are always great for a laugh.

What story was the Moses clipart thing for?

I think it may have been the movie we watched with the freakish children, but I'm not sure. But I do remember renaming everyone Tim in it. Haha! Oh, man. Good times.

I am also sad Fluffy is no longer with us. I still remember fondly how we displayed the portrait proudly through our college years... Art. Plain and simple.

Obviously, the ASPCA was not in full affect back in Mr. Poe's days.

I'd also like to see Poe's character take on Stephen King's cat from Pet Cemetary. That would be a great mish-mash!

Ah, cats. I think they're beautiful but I can't be in the same room as them. My allergies would act up something fierce.

By the way, you forgot to mention the large "BRAWR" at the top of the picture. It seriously was a good thing the professor had a crush on you. We did such ridiculous work in that class, and still managed good grades. If not for that crush, we might have needed to take the class seriously. And who wants that???

@Tracy PLUTO VS. CHURCH! Only on PPV.

That would be priceless. And I'd pay to see it.

My money's on Church, though.

@Nicole I have cat allergies too, which seem to have improved since I live with 2 of them and haven't had to curl into the fetal position because of allergies. Yet. But that's okay. They're pretty decent. And sweet. And only 87% evil. BTW, did you get your gift card?

@Connie How could I forget BRAWR????? And yeah, I guess it's a good *icky, creepy, nightmare-inducing* thing that there was said crush. I'm certain we could have done absolutely nothing in that class after the wreck and pulled an A.
