Six Sentence Sunday 4/17

Merry Sunday all! Admittedly, I have totally slipped on the reading and the commenting. There are so many awesome stories and snippets and authors now. Will definitely do a better job this week. *Forgive me for being a slacker? :D*

As always, to join in the fun or catch up with the other amazing authors, click here.

Without further ado, SSS from Duality. It follows immediately after last week's, and it kinda cheats. It's only 5 sentences but I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally liked it.

I rose and followed her back into the lab, breathing deeply the lingering scents of desert plants and the crispness of the air. Without Jasper, I didn’t know what would happen. This woman, this White Coat, tried to blend with the group who wanted to ignore my existence when I wasn’t proving myself in their stupid physical exams. She wanted to pretend that she was on James’ side, but she wasn’t. Her scents—the longing, the hope, the fear, the concern—betrayed her before she even told me her name.

Fascinating character voice: definitely more or less than human, but easy to identify with just the same.

Ooh! I'm excited! I think I know who she is. (If not, you've done this well enough to get me thinking about it.) Last week when you just said "white coat" I wasn't sure if she was an experiment or one of the experimenters, but now...

Draws me right in. Like how much he's able to read from her w/o her wanting to give it away.

Ooh, great description, and I love how he knows what's going on with her without even knowing her name!

I especially loved that last line, how those scents betrayed someone's true feelings.
